Claire is a California based artist known for her captivating and dream-like landscape and skycape paintings. With a unique ability to capture the essence of earths tranquility, Claire’s artworks transport viewers into a realm where reality blends with imagination. Divining inspiration from the out-of-doors and the out-of-mind, her work is at once energetic and soothing; creating a dream-like atmosphere both rich and clean. Primarily working in watercolor, ink and oil paint her practice is purposeful and calculated.
Claire Ray resides in Grass Valley, California and works out of her on-site home studio surrounded by tall oaks, pine trees and the gardens she tends with her husband and two children. Her admiration for her natural surroundings began early, spending her childhood in the mist and high grasses of the Central Coast in California. Her work is profoundly influenced by both of these landscapes, and others, like the human body, the passage of time and the expanse of the sky. Artistically nurtured from a young age she embraced visual art as a foundation for her academic pursuits both at University of California, Santa Cruz and later while earning a degree in Landscape Architecture at University of California, Davis.
